Characterizing PFAS Thermal Treatment Using Online Mass Spectrometry

Impact/Purpose:

This presentation is intended to illustrate an application of chemical ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry for characterizing perfluorocarboxylic acids as products of incomplete combustion from the thermal treatment of PFAS.

Description:

Presentation for the AWMA Science of PFAS Conference on characterizing PFAS thermal treatment using online mass spectrometry. In this presentation previously published results from EPA's Rainbow furnace will be discussed to provide context on formation of products of incomplete combustion from AFFF. The focus of the talk is the use of high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry to characterize perfluorocarboxylic acids as products of incomplete combustion in the Rainbow furnace.
